Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:
Numbers 16:1 KJV commentary https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.1.KJV
This genoelogy and that of others traced to their fathers show that Israel 🇮🇱 was not in slavery 400 years though they sojouned from Abraham to the exodus 430 years. https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.1.KJV
and he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
Numbers 16:5 KJV commentary https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.5.KJV
This lesson Miriam and Aaron had learnt long ago, but these seem not to have or had forgotten. https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.5.KJV
Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.
Numbers 16:14 KJV commentary https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.14.KJV
Moses was put in a very difficult situation.
Indeed the words of these men carry a semblance of truth.
They were not in the promise land and they knew they were going to dies in the wilderness.
All because of their rebellion when the opportunity was ripe.
They had brought it upon themselves and they were only blaming Moses for it.
They were levites, they should have taken it up with the lord.
Moses was the front for God and God had really put him in a difficult situation.
There was no reason to listen to Moses because now the reason for following him all this while was gone.
How was Moses to govern them. I can imagine the rumors ans insults behind his back.
And we can say the conversation that they have had in time past from the response of these two men.
Now they had grown so stubborn they told Moses to the face the things the spoke of in his absence..
Moses often pleaded with God for the people and in this case though not recorded I’m sure he went to God time and again to reconsider his decision or atleast reduce the 40 years.
And time and again He refused.
The other thing is so long as God refused, Moses had to live with reproach like this.
I’m sure he has heard such statement but it hadn’t blown up like this. It was only a matter of time.
And now here we are… Open rebellion and towards God and the man God Moses https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.14.KJV
Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.
Numbers 16:21 KJV commentary https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.21.KJV
Did these rebellious ones here when the lord spoke to both Moses ans Aaron.
I doubt they did. Next thing they knew they were consumed. Without warning seemingly.
The lord has acted shrewdly with them https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.21.KJV
And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.
Numbers 16:42 KJV commentary https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.42.KJV
Oh.. It has appeared again.
Though the presence of the lord was constantly dwelling in the tabernacle… It did not always appear for them to see. https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.42.KJV
And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.
Numbers 16:43 KJV commentary https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.43.KJV
It seemed that the appearance of the glory was a summoning to Moses and Aaron.
When God shows up it is for a purpose and it is important we discern the move and stirring of God in our hearts 💕. https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.43.KJV
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
Numbers 16:46 KJV commentary https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.46.KJV
How did Moses know this???
It means Moses not only knew the ordinances and ceremonies but understood why and what it symbolizes https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.46.KJV
We are not told that the lord told Moses this… But somehow he knew and new what to do about it…
How did he know? https://bible.com/bible/1/num.16.46.KJV
